A Police Explorer is a young adult who has a desire to learn about law enforcement as a career option through firsthand experience. This program offers hands-on experience in the records unit, front desk, detective unit, traffic enforcement, and a patrol officer's function through the ride-along program. The Explorer post is staffed by knowledgeable and experienced police officer advisors who promote self-discipline, personal integrity and responsibility.

The minimum qualifications to be a Police Explorer is as follows:

• Must be between the ages of 14 and 21.
• Must maintain a 'C' or better grade point average.
• Must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours a month of service.
• Must have a good moral character and good background.
